A memory of the second and third performance of “The Voyage”, after my premiere on October 4th, 2024, in the Klaipedos Valstybinis Muzikinis Teatras, in Lithuania. It was a pleasure to be back in the theater where I conducted “La Traviata” in 1994. The coastal city of Klaipeda is beautiful, its people friendly, audiences are marvelous. Thanking the soloists, orchestra, chorus, and ballet for all the work in this impressive metaphor on human search by traveling both in the outside in the inside of our conscience.
I should acknowledge the ‘creative group’ as the call them in Klaipeda: here the names of my outstanding colleagues: Chiara Osella (director) and Carlo Massari (director and choreographer), Eleonora Peronetti (set designer), Emilia Zagnoli (costumes), Linartas Urniezis (video projection), Andrew Stasiulis (Light designing), and Vladimir Konstantinov (Choirmaster).
My thankful admiration for their beautiful work, which extends to the energy and commitment from singers, chorus, ballet and orchestra of the Klaipėdos Valstybinis Muzikins Teatras.
It is a wonderful production that deserves to be shown in many cities. Stunning images, remarkable acting, impressive sets, splendid effects, beautiful choreography. An ever present theme: our voyage in both the external world and our private realms of conscience. The moral imperative on accountability. The wars, the irrational, explained but incomprehensible. The astonishing material, libretto in English, Latin, and Spanish.
